DOING THE IMPOSSIBLE
"Impossible is a word in fool´s dictionary", said Srila Prabhupada and He proved to us that it is so.
Even Krsna Himself states in the Bhagavad-gita that to overcome the covering imposed upon us by the material energy is - if not surrendering to Him, IMPOSSIBLE.
So what hope is there for those who are born into the darkness of this world covered by ignorance, which takes form in so many false designations our bodies collect on the way?
How can one overcome such dense darkness? Whose light is so strong that it can penetrate all the coverings the conditioned soul is burried under, paralyzes its false ego, and enters its heart?
Srila Prabhupada did that in one second, simply by the glance of His eyes. So intense His glance was, so demanding for the conditioned soul, who for millions of lifetimes seeked its sense gratification, finding shelter in anonymity mayavada philosophy seems to provide. Nobody could stay indifferent in Srila Prabhupada´s presence. He had to reveal either his pious or his demonic qualities. Even some of His disciples couldn´t take it after a while of this constant exposure, and retreated again into the anonymity the karmi society offers.
Who has such powers today? Do people really change when they come to Krsna Conciousness? Rarely. True, they change their names, they follow certain rituals, they feel to be "part of it". But are they really? Piety wasn´t Srila Prabhupada´s priority, preaching was. Whose hearts are really burning with intense desire to give others Srila Prabhupada´s mercy by dint of book distribution, Holy Name distribution and prasadam distribution? That has to be seen through the process of bonafide initiation. Srila Prabhupada went even sofar that He stated, that those whose hearts don´t burn with intense fire of compassion for the conditioned souls and don´t preach actively, don´t have to receive diksa initiation at all.
How does this correspond with present days´ reality? It doesn´t.
The ways when often unqualified individuals are initiated, whenever the opportunity arises, in great numbers in almost mechanical fashion, simply filling up the list of names in computers of their gurus, who may in return to their "non-disturbing attitude" be rewarded by their materialistic followers with good gurudaksina, it creates a church like profile of the originally vibrant preaching movement of Srila Prabhupada.
By lowering standards of the initiation process to the lowest level possible, such "initiation machines", as one of my godbrothers so accurately stated, make finally Srila Prabhupada´s movement unlivable for those who seek dignity, true knowledge and cultivation of character such movement should provide. Indeed, the wast numbers of lunatics they faciliate create a movement on its own. Srila Prabhupada cautioned His managers to make "class" as their priority, not "mass". Those, who in name of "mercy" faciliate lunacy and crime do great disservice to His Divine Grace, turning His movement into a "lunatic asylum" at worst, or a petrified church institution at best.
There are still those alive of madhyama adhikari nature, eager to preach, but often they find themselves to be obstructed by the kanistha adhikari class of "leaders", whose priority is to protect their name and fame, maintain their designated posts, and eliminate those who would remember them in their own mediocrity.
For those who truly want to help Srila Prabhupada´s mission the challenge is the same: how much of the Srila Prabhupada´s potency can we really reflect? Those sincere at heart try to simply repeat what was given to them by His Divine Grace without any change, while trying to illustrate His teachings with their lives. This constitutes life of a real devotee. Others who use Srila Prabhupada´s movement for their own purposes will finally perish along their foolish followers.
Only those blessed by Srila Prabhupada will prevail. As much the majority of population wants to be cheated, it is finally the class and not mass, which will demonstrate what Krsna Conciousness really is.
